Radio Daze 2017 will be held May 19-20, 2017 at the Comfort Inn of Plymouth, 3000 Harbor Lane, Plymouth, Minnesota 55447. This will be our 31st annual Radio Daze event and the 20th year at this location. We hold a very enjoyable auction Friday evening, usually with around 200 vintage radios consigned. Frank Rasada comes from California every year and is our auctioneer, and we have an experienced crew of knowledgeable radio collectors that keep the auction moving. The outdoor swap meet starts at dawn Saturday morning in the hotel parking lot, the hospitality room with free snacks opens at 7am, contest item entry is 11 to 11:45 am. The program starts at 2pm and this year we are excited to have Steve Raymer from the Pavek Museum present The History of Broadcasting in Minnesota! An abundance of door prizes wraps up the meet.

The Pavek Museum http://www.pavekmuseum.org/ has free admission during the meet to those registered for Radio Daze. The museum is located a few miles away from the hotel, so many collectors go there on Friday, before the auction gets going at the hotel, to view their wonderful collection and to possibly buy something from the museum's annual garage sale that is scheduled for the same weekend as RadioDaze.

Details are on the Northland Antique Radio Club website: http://www.northlandantiqueradioclub.com/
We hope you can make it!

Looks cold and wet this morning (rain moving to the North). Anyone there want to report on the swap meet? Complete rainout?

Well, the rain started around 7am but the swap started around dawn and sales were good to start with. Quite a few vendors didn't get going that early and didn't set up, which was unfortunate since some had driven long distances. As a buyer, I did OK, with my best find being a nice Steinite 1-tube battery set. By 9am I don't think any sellers were still set up since it had also gotten colder as it started raining harder. The hotel has just been renovated and has some very nice areas where people congregated to visit, and of course the hospitality room was very popular while it was raining outside.

But, the swap was only one part of the meet. The Friday evening auction was one of the largest we've had, with the tables all packed and another 35-40 nice radios from the Charlie Bradley estate in the adjoining room including a number of $1000+ restored Zeniths. Frank Rasada was the auctioneer again and kept the pace up, but the auction still took 3-1/2 hours. The contest today gave everyone the rare opportunity to see and hear a restored Scott Quaranta, which won both the Best of Show and People's Choice awards. The highlight of the program was 'The History of Broadcasting in Minnesota' which Steve Raymer from the Pavek Museum presented, and which including many very entertaining video clips from old-time television shows. The event wrapped up with giving away around 50 door prizes, and everyone who registered this year got a free Northland Antique Radio Club ceramic mug.
