Had the pleasure of meeting him and chatting with him for about 10-15 minutes before a local concert in 2006. A super nice guy and an extraordinarily talented musician / singer. May he rest in peace.

Dammit another good one is gone.
I guess it just proves we are getting old.

R.I.P. Glen Campbell :(

He and Michael J Fox are among the bravest public figures I read/seen about in years. Both suffering from debilitating disease and insisting on maintaining a public presence for years, not hide from it, to draw support for others suffering from the same disease. He was a man of tremendous musical talent who knew both poverty and wealth and earned the respect of numerous big name musicians and artists. May he rest in peace.

A fine guitar picker as well, he played the instrumental parts on many of his recorded hits.
If you hear "Wichita Linesman", that is Glen on a Fender Bass VI, 6-string bass.

Edit: It is said that studio musician Carol Kaye played the bass on that tune, but I think Glen played the lead break. Also can really hear him play the Bass VI on 'Galveston'.

Saw him play during the farewell tour. A truly memorable event. He shouldn't be remembered for his TV show,or his pop albums,or his acting career,or his singing. But for his extraordinary talent as a guitarist. RIP Glen.

Another old fart for certain. I remember when WHN was new york's C&W station. And
you could hear more on WWVA in wheeling when the night was right.

I remember those great good times listening to WHN and WWVA in the late 1970's.Used to listen to both all the time.I was pissed when WHN went sports in 1988 Now they are WEPN ESPN Hispanic sports talk radio. WWVA is still on the air with a religious format and now news.. Glen was wall to wall then on those stations. Also I can WSM at the time.Luckily 650 WSM is still on the air.More likely WSM probably run a tribute to Glen in days to come.I doubt much the current country stations will do anything for him.

Man, that totally sucks! I loved Glen Campbell's music. A very talented musician. I think I'm going to go listen to his music on YouTube while I browse the forum.

In his early career he was a member of the legendary "wrecking crew" (Google it). His enormous session musician talent foretold his later individual success.

RIP

More GC trivia: He played bass for the Beach Boys on tour for about 4 months (December 1964 - April 1965) after Brian Wilson quit touring and before Bruce Johnston became a permanent member.

WTOP just had a piece on him.

One thing I did not know was that he was son of a share-cropper.

Talk about getting up in the world.

He'll certainly be missed. RIP.
