I just bought a Sentinel TV with a 7JP4 crt. I have high-voltage but the crt filament is intermittent and even when it does connect I still have no raster. The base of the tube is very loose and if I move it I can make the filament light. My guess is I have more bad connections in the base. What is the best solution? Unsolder the base, remove and reglue, then resolder? Or should I just try resoldering every pin tip then try and reglue base?
Are 7jp4 hard to find and/or is there a substitute? and at what cost?
Also the base is cracked.
Keith
------------------
I do not recommend removing the base. When the CRT was made, the lead wires were much longer so they could be threaded into the individual pins. It is very difficult to get all those wires of identical length back into the right pins. It is also easy to break off a lead at the glass making repair impossible.
Try resoldering just the filament pins 1 and 14 first. Thin solder and some flux should work. Don't overdo it. Then use Monkey Glue, epoxy or electrical tape to hold the socket to the glass. Use great care at each step.
Don
------------------
