I just recently got back into old TV repair/restoration. About a year ago, I rescued an old round color Silvertone combo from the garbage about a block from where I live. The homeowner (or person in charge of the estate) said the TV probably needs a tube. From my experience, problems are almost never tube related. This was no exception. The thermistor for the degauser was toast, causing the varistor to smoke. After bypassing the thermistor (temporarily), the HV came on and the tube lit. The CRT was shot, but still produced a useable picture. This was last fall. I put a NOS CRT in and this set looks comparable to the throw away sets on the American market now. This is one of four round screen color sets I have. The others are Zenith, Sylvania and RCA Victor. Finding boards like this one and looking at Ebay got me reinterested.

i,too, have a place in my heart for the old round tube color tv sets. i have been in the tv repair buisness since the early 70's & i have worked on quite a few of those sets.
in regards to that sears set, you will need to replace the filter capacitors & check the horizontal drive circuit for proper grid & plate drive voltages. you will also need to get a milliameter & check / adjust the horizontal effeciancy coil for the lowest cathode current on the horizontal output tube. if you dont, eventually, the flyback will overheat & burn up. this is a manditory procedure for all older tube type television chassis
------------------
