What you see sounds very similar to what I
see with another Zenith from that same time
period. I have what I think is a 1961 or 62
21" Zenith console from my grandparents. It
has remote control.
It is still 100% original and I try to turn
it on every few months and let it warm up and
let the caps reform. But for the first 10
to 20 minutes the picture is really horrible.
The contrast is extremely high.. yet the
picture is very dim. The whites are all
washed out. But after it is on for a while
the picture is actually pretty good. If it
is used within the next few days it will
start out again with a good picture but if
it sits for a few month then the whole sequence
starts all over.
From what I can remember this set has done
this ever since it was fairly new.

------------------
