Seems the descriptions on EvilBay are getting as far out as the prices. I was not particularly impressed with a few of my recent purchases, which were made based on the sellers description. My particular favorite is "RARE" in the desription for the typical 1960's plastic radio. I guess they never saw one before <IMG SRC="http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/smile.gif">. I wonder if it ever dawns on thses fine folks when the crap doesn't sell.<P>------------------<BR>

I restored an RCA projection television that came from a bar up in Minneapolis. The optics were anything but smoke-free...the set was from the later forties. Yup...lotta work was needed. Still smells a bit.<P>------------------<BR>

There are few things more disgusting to a sensitive no-longer smoker of 20 years than some piece of electronics that stinks from it's impossible to wash out inside cigarette resin. It just permeates the whole house. Personally I think the 'from a smoke free home' is meaningful information on a item for auction for many non-smokers like myself. Speaking from experience I know that smokers have no sense of smell so they cannot understand this.<P>Rob<P>------------------<BR>

Guys,<BR> I didn't mean to get into a smoking topic, was the fact the radio was beat, surroundings dirty and they said from a smoke free home. I get very few items off ebay that I'm pleased with, so I don't buy much unless it's a parts radio. When the price can vary much from minor blems to major blems it's almost impossible to buy sight unseen. Sure you have a return priviledge with some but the shipping factor (breakage)can compound things.<BR> Ken<P>------------------<BR>

You're all commenting on the smell from smoking. Try cleaning a 20 year old TV from a house with smokers. That dirty, brown stain will wash off to reveal it's true colors. It's amzing how much tar can build up on everything. I just worked an a 25 Y/O set belonging to a little old lady who smoked to remind me of the fact. Noticed the fittings in her house she's been in a few years were taking on the same shade.<BR>Don Black.<P>------------------<BR>

Now remember Fellers, A thin coating of tar will protect the original finish. Termites and other bugs will be neutralized, as that's precisely why the tobacco plant made nicotene in the first place. Burn some bacon and eggs for breakfast. Blast a steak with big frying heat, add some onions, and raw potatoes. Now You're cookin! I can smell that stuff a continent away!
