I'll echo that last comment. For Pete's sake, try to get it. There were, I believe, 5 models in the Berkshire series, and they were the ultimate masterpiece of RCA. They were all made in 1948. I have the sales brochure that came with the Berkshire Modern that I have. Without digging it out, I seem to remember that two of the Berkshire models had the projection TV chassis, and the rest were Radio-Phono combos only. A dealer, I believe, installed an RCA 10" chassis in my cabinet, and did a good job of it.
There were 23 tubes in the receiver chassis, and about 9 in the amplifier chassis. Power output was 40 watts (P-P Parallel 6L6) through an attenuating network into a LS-1 speaker. Tuning bandswitching was done with a Collins Autotune system. DC filaments on all receiver chassis tubes. The changer was normally a Thorens, but on some sets (as mine is), there is a Garrard changer. This is possibly because Thorens couldn't get out enough changers as RCA needed them.
The Regency was available in mahogany or blonde finish. I've seen both. As far as value goes, the price is never discussed, so you're stabbing in the dark. Start at $400, and play crack the whip from there. Good luck; you'll have a real prize if you get it! I kid you, not.
------------------
Hi,
If it's buried and the guy is radio/tv ignorant offer him a $100.00 and work up. Maybe he will let you throw it on the truck for that price. You could probably sell it off to someone local and make a few bucks.
Ken
------------------
I don't suppose that this is surprising. Berkshires aren't found very often, nor sold very often, either. So, virtually no price should be surprising.
I bought mine for lots less than that, but......
------------------
Doug,
A friend has a 1948 sales ad for your Berkshire Modern and it shows a 10" TV chassis was installed at that time from the factory. If your interested I'll try to get a copy of it.
Chuck

Thanks, Chuck, I'll take you up on that. The receiver chassis has a drum-style dial, where different scales rol over to display the selected band, or whatever. One of the dial displays reads: VICTROLA, for the phono mode, and there is another that reads: TELEVISION. All of the chassis had the TV input on them.
It'll be interesting to see how the factory installation came out. The sales catalogue, and it's a big book, shows the "Modern" with a blank panel in the center. The TV chassis in mine is the KCS 28.
There is a promo film, now on VHS tape for the 45 RPM record system. One scene is in a record store, and if one looks quickly, there are three Berkshire sets in the background. One of them is a "Modern". I understand that there were 75 of the Modern model built.
------------------
