I had a couple of sets follow me home this past week. The first was a RCA 8TV41 console, with radio and phono, weighing in at only 210lbs. With this one I had my first accident with moving big heavy consoles, I was lifting it into the back of the truck and twisted my arm the wrong way, tore muscles in my forearm , was a pretty sickening sound, the doc says I won't be lifting any of these for a long time.
The second set is a bit smaller a RCA 621TS, had to tear into this one right away. Just about all the tubes were shot including the 1B3, one shorted electrolytic and of course all the paper caps. I lucked out on the picture tube nice and bright! I have a picture posted at:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/c1827/page89.html
Chuck
------------------
You're a lucky guy. The 621TS and 630TS came out together, and were both Magnetic deflected sets. I can't recall RCA using any electrostatic tubes...ever.
I have enjoyed ownership of both 630TS and 8TS30 since the mid-fifties.
Had a 641TV, but no place to keep it, so I let Steve McVoy have it. All of those early major brand sets were nice to have.
------------------
The 621 uses a 7" magnetic deflection, electrostatic focus tube (7DP4).
Does anyone know if a factory stand was available for this model?
I located a 641 recently, just waiting for the owner to dig it out of storage. Going to pick up a Philco 48-2500 tomorrow.
Chuck
------------------
Chuck,
That 621 is a real beauty! Many of these have a top center section that looks misshapen, not yours. Good looking CRT too. Nice score. Sorry to hear about the console accident. Was it damaged? Kidding of course. I hope your arm gets better soon. I almost got a hernia carrying my 9PC41 projection console into the house. That beast must weigh 250 lbs. It has hidden castor wheels under it now. I can push it around on the carpet all by myself.
Thanx for sharing.
Rob
------------------
Chuck A., Since you mention you are picking up a Philco 48-2500, do you know of any spare TP-400 picture tubes that might be available anywhere? I've had one of these for a few years, and have it pretty well restored, but the picture tube is weak way beyond "dim". Do you know of anyone who can rebuild a TP-400?
Tom
------------------
Tom,
I have a "spare" projection unit with TP-400, let me see what the tube is like in the unit I'm picking up. If it's good, I'll part with the extra.
Chuck

------------------
Mike,
I'm in eastern Pennsylvania. Here's a link to Tom Genova's site with a picture: http://www.tvhistory.tv/1949_Philco_Model_2500_Proj_TV.JPG
After collecting phonos, radios & TV's for 30 years I believe it's a combination of luck and just plain old "beating the bush".
Chuck

------------------
Chuck,
It's very encouraging to hear that you may be willing to part with a TP-400 if the tube in your new 48-2500 turns out to be good. Looking forward to hearing the status.
Tom
------------------
I saw that 621 at Kutztown , and wished i had the money .... nice projection tv ... Well i'm in Rockaway , NJ and i guess were kind of neighbors ChuckA and PaulC ( that is if you live in the area paul and didn't just drive really far for the meet )
I Did get a 10" Westinghouse at that meet so i didn't walk away empty handed , but other sets were either too expensive or going too fast.... wait paul are you the tv collector i was introduced to ? i was in too much of a hurry to get out of there to go to a wedding and forgot to get some numbers or emails.
Mike
------------------
Paul,
Yes, it was the one from Kutztown. I wasn't real sure about it and waited until I was ready to leave to make an offer. He wouldn't budge on his price. What swung me was that a friend who was there said he had the couple of items that were missing to make it complete. The only thing missing is the back.
I think the stand is a homemade thing, just doesn't look factory, anybody know if there was a factory stand for the 621??
Chuck
------------------
Fantastic you got it going again. I never even bothered the guy on his asking price. someone else told me what he was asking and it diddn't sound bad.
Mike,
I really diddn't talk to to many people and then just chitchat for a few minutes. Sorry I just don't remember. It takes me a little over an hour to get there from due south so I guess we're neighbors.
BTW, my father who's up for a summer visit from his Florida retirement (HA) won the raffle radio.
Paul
------------------
Hi Doug, The RCA TRK5 used electrostatic deflection. It may have been the only one (I guess some of the prototypes before 1939 were electrostatic deflection but they don't count as production sets).
Don Black.
------------------
