Here is a picture of what I need - link. The wire I need is for the focus wire I believe; it goes from the neck board socket to the focus assembly that's mounted on the flyback transformer. A 2' length would be enough. It is rated for 10,000 volts DC and 80°C, and it is 22 gauge. The bullet connector is a solder type (the bare wire goes through a hole in it and is folded down and soldered in place). I need the rubber boot with it as well. Does anyone know of a source for this type of wire and connector/boot? I've found the right type of wire from places like Mouser and Digi-Key, but it only comes in 100' rolls for several hundred dollars. I only need about 2 feet.

Most people salvage that type of wire from junked CRT TV's and computer monitors, which are usually available for free or nearly so on Craigslist or in dumpsters behind thrift stores. If you look at several of them, might get lucky and find one with a similar connector. Could also ask at a local TV repair shop, many of them have saved the main boards from junked out sets to harvest hard to find parts from. We used to have hundreds of them, but everything went into the trash when we closed the shop.

Good idea. I have a dead TV that I brought home because I wanted the tube, so I took its focus wire, which was actually rated higher (20k VDC, 105 °C) than the original focus wire for the chassis I'm working on. However, I still need one of those connectors/boots so that I can plug it into the focus assembly, because the dead TV didn't have a connector like that.

Another source for wire is the center conductor from some old RG-59. Make sure it is polly and not the foam stuff that you use for cable tv!. Strip the outer jacket and shield, and you are set. By the way, keep the shield to use for grounding straps too.

Know anyone who is into the old Detroit Iron? My first thought was for OLD car spark plug wire. Not the new stuff, the resistor composition type now in vogue, but the real wire for the 1940's era vehicles. Score a spark plug boot too, that may fit.

Let me do some looking tomorrow at the shop I work at. I know I have what you are looking for in my junk pile! CRT type projector sets all used that kind of rubber boot and wire on the focus/screen blocks.

SteveT sent me two wires (plenty long enough) with the connectors and boots already on them. They are perfect. Thanks again Steve.
