Other than the transfer station, is there anything else that can be done with "open" CRTs such as 10BP4s, 3KP4s, 7JP4s? I'm in Connecticut and won't toss them if there are any ideas/interest.
thanks and happy 2012

Nobody in the USA currently rebuilds vintage picture tubes, but the Early Television Foundation has a project underway that may eventually provide such a service. If you're the optimistic type, or you just hate throwing things away, you (or someone else) could save them in case that again becomes practical. I know the 10BP4 is rebuildable. Not sure about 3KP4 or 7JP4.

thanks, Phil. Taking up space isn't really an issue at this point, so they will stay put.

By "open"do you mean bad filaments? Or lost vacuum? I have seen very few bad filaments ... in most all cases a quick resolder of pins cured the "open" also the 7jp4 & 3kp4 are made of Pyrex glass. I believe only RACS in France is rebuilding Pyrex prewar tubes.. just my. 02

3KP4 and 7JP4 are standard glass. Tubes such as 12AP4 are Pyrex.

This may be a dumb question, but where would I search for a good 10bp4? Ebay and classifiers and craigslist like everyone else?

Aside from posting here or the the ETF web site & buying one from a member, I have had good results in buying other tv sets just for the CRT via Craigslist, etc.
Harry Poster in NJ used to sell good used tubes.

... For sure! One hates to part out a set. But tubes etc. are often a reward.

He is again, and the 10BP4 is among them.
