It's a snowy Sunday and my cap order came last week so I finally started working on one of my two Sylouettes. Recapped the power supply and this is the first fire up. halo works, vertical locks no problem, horizontal is really iffy and sync is way off. Still need to do the circuit board. Fun, fun.

I've never seen one of those lit up--cool! Wish I had more time, space and money...

Looks very promising.......CRT and Halolight both look decent so far.

Thanks guys. I had to run to RS to get some solder wick, my sucker doesn't work worth a damn and made it 5 minutes before closing but the mall was CLOSED, closed early. :x Looks to be about a foot of snow now. I'll be fun tomorrow. Think I'm done for today.

That's a cool set.

Roger Sterling on "Mad Men" had one of those in his home, circa 1961-2. 8)

I missed out buying one of those TVs at an auction this past summer which was in good working and cosmetic condition. I think it sold for around $300.00 CDN. which was one of the highest prices that anyone paid at radio/TV auction that day. I always liked the Halo however I will just have to keep on looking.

Looking very promising for sure. The halo is cool and your CRT looks very strong, once that sync issue is sorted you'll have a watchable picture on that thing! Great stuff. :D

Thanks Glen.

Halolights were made in a lot of styles, many of which I consider pretty ugly. The halolight is cool but many of them came in very plain cabinets. However the Sylouette is quite different . Has that Predicta-ish modern look to it. If I remember correctly, they had 4 different models. They use a 110 degree tube so they are quite thin also.

I'm not positive, maybe Dennis or someone knows, but I think my newer Sylouette is one of, if not the, last year halolights made. It's in the shed and I'm not going out there to check, 3' drifts out back, but I think it's a 1960 or 61.

Did the circuit board last night. In all honesty, it was easy, I thought. I didn't have any issues with traces lifting or anything. But this set has been very well stored over the years which may have something to do with it.

Twisted a coupla knobs and there is was.

Still needs a lot of tweaking but it's alive.

Thanks everybody. I ran it for an hour tonight. Actually watched the Perry Mason episode shown. The picture is very decent but the horizontal is still a little flaky, so still a little more work to do. But overall, it didn't smoke, make any funny noises, or go to black so the first test run is a success.

Very nice job. Every time I see one of these Halolights I have this strange craving for an Oreo cookie with creamy filling. 8)

Cosmic! I don't think I have seen one of those operating before. The Halolight is subdued, not obtrusive as I had imagined.

I'm sure everybody else knows already, but what kind of lighting is used to light up the halo? A few florescent tubes or ?

That's correct. I haven't had this one apart to see what the tubes look like but probably something made just for the set, meaning unobtanimum now. It was a marketing gimmick, supposed to be easier on your eyes. I believe like most that have these, it's cool to look at for a while but it's better watching it with it off.

It's a single fluorescent tube specially made by Sylvania for the HaloLight sets.

Something is pulling down the HV a little. I can't completely fill the screen and it's worse on the right than the left. Changed out the 1B3, the damper, the 12DA6, and anything related to the horizontal on the circuit board but no change. Time to pull the PS, sweep chassis again, I guess. Width control is a slug under the flyback, does a little but not much.
