Hi. I'm new to this forum, but I've been having a wonderful time reading the posts.

I have had a long interest in antique TVs, and have just purchased on eBay a mahogany RCA 621TS. I have not yet received it, but, from the photos it looks to be in reasonably good shape. Of course, I would like to have the set restored.

I am a theoretical physicist--operative word here is theoretical. The set is too valuable for me to attempt a first restoration project with my historically equipment-breaking hands. Is there anyone (preferably near either Saratoga Springs, NY or New York City) who can restore this beauty?

Just think of all the fun you'll have!

Congratulations on getting a great set. The 621 will produce a very nice picture if the CRT is good. I would be happy to restore it for you but I am located near Los Angeles so that is about as far away from you as we can get!

I see another blonde 621 passed through Ebay for around $620 last night 6/29.

I looked decent, finish was a little rough but it had a back.

I am a retired TV repair man in Stillwater 12miles east of Saratoga NY. Give me an email and we will take a look at it .
Don't Plug It IN !!! Its best to look first then clean then test and with reduced voltage turn on with me present.
Its best not to do this on your new living room carpet ! The Garage is the place ,its easier to ventilate smoke there.
Its a good idea to have a high voltage probe on the picture tube . If no smoke then increase voltages slowly while testing with power off the temperatures of the filter capacitors , from time to time . If doing correctly the test should take a few hours . Also take many pictures as during the cleaning and dis-assembly process may dislodge wires etc.
Good lighting is a must while Looking for smoke . And if you had an infinite budget you could get all new filter caps , then secondly tubes and a spare high voltage transformer ( flyback ) as these were wax and paper insulated items back then. And are noted points of failure . There are many other failure points that i have found ,mostly dependent on where the set was stored. Copper wires fail right where they are soldered as the flux eats the copper and it turns to copper sulfate (greenish blue) . Then there is always the picture tube ? One of the biggest questions of all ! If no budget then no problem . I would be actually testing it first of all (if the socket looks good and the tube base solid ).
I am not a wood restorer though. You will have to give me a week to find my tools after you want me to look at it.
