May be collectable, but, one word comes to mind... UGLY. Late 50's?? Looks like an interesting project. What brand? Bill Cahill

Sylvania Sylouette, 1958.
I love the styling but to each his own I guess.

It's definitely unusual, that makes it interesting. What CRT type is in there? Looks very thin front to back.

I love the styling but to each his own I guess. That looks one of those sets with the flourescent lighting behind the frame around the picture tube. Sylvania "Halo-Lite"?

Perfect for a 1950s room. My wife would go nuts for it. Might be easier on the eyes if you disconnect the Halo Lite. Put a panther lamp on top instead. Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html

I like it a lot but one thing I don't understand. The top is very 50's futuristic but the bottom looks like early American or something, it should have had some Danish Modern legs instead.

I've heard of that model. I think it dates 1960 ish. That is a halo light.. Are controls on the side? It's an odd , I believe 110 degree tube. I think it's series string. Bill Cahill

There was a modern version. But as hard as they are to find, I had to take what I got. Been looking for a reasonable one for a long time. Controls are on top in a recessed panel. This one is about a 1958. They were made until about 61 or 62 but the mask changed a little about 1960.

You know what im with you Gregg, the more you look at it the more it grows on you. I hope you get it working, its the sort of set that gets thrown away and in time there will be none at all.

I like it. Roger Sterling on "Mad Men" had one similar in one of the earliest episodes.

That's what I was trying to say. They had halo light until at least 1962. I had an aunt that had a 1961 21" round Sylvania color set with halo light. Hoffies, you are also wrong when it came out. I first saw the halo light introduced on "Beat the clock" about 1955. They gave away alot of Sylvania tv's as prizes. Bill Cahill

I also have to admit the set is growing on me. It's so ugly, it's cute... The bottom section is interesting. Is the top of cabinet metal with wood grain? Looks like it may be. Bill Cahill

Nah. It's not metal. Looked at it again. But, I think the grain is photo finnish, though. Control panel looks easy to use.... May I see the back inside? Bill Cahill

I'm the one who posted a link to the CL ad on "Curbside" at Videokarma that led Greg to this set (I'm IsthmusTV over there). I passed on it, even though it was only about 20 miles away, because I too thought it was pretty ugly. Since then, it has kind of grown on me. I didn't realize how unique it is, with motorized tuning and such. But I'm glad that Greg got it (made a 14 hour round trip!) and I hope that the CRT is good.
I'm also looking forward to seeing shots of the chassis.
