I was wondering if anyone here owns or has seen one in person. I can only find one magazine ad photo online. It looks like an interesting set. I was wondering what it looks like from the side? is the case metal or plastic?

Hard to say. I have a 17" Admiral portable from the same era and it has a plastic case.

Sparton was gone in the US by 1956. The closest I could find at Sams is a 17K1K by Sparton of Canada

The set in that picture has a Canadian look to it. Its definitely later than 1956.
