I had one of these a few years ago and resold it, so I was curious if this was the same one I had. It isn't. This one is unrestored, and looks very clean. Will be interesting to see if this set can command this price.

These very early DuMonts are truly rare and are quite unique in their design. Nothing else quite like these.

I'm always wary of sellers who claim to be experienced in collecting, buying and selling vintage items, but have no idea about the functionality of said items.

Hear, hear!

Well said and I am sure there is a lot of truth in that statement, John.

Perhaps one could ask Don to test that 20BP4. He is more in the trading aspect than repair. I do repairs and between the gamble of getting a good price and time repairing something, l'd be lucky to get $3 an hour. A better approach might be to offer trades. Trip to Florida anybody? Craig

I've dealt with Don several times over the years. Everything I ever got from him was described as "untested" and described to the tee cosmetically. I was always happy. He packs extremely well also. From several conversations I had with him, I got the feeling that he has no electrical repair experience whatsoever. Anything that was worked on in his collection seemed to be done by technicians he hired.

Having sold a bit on eBay myself, I see it more as a CYA situation than dishonesty.

Me also. Have bought and sold with Don and he’s very honest and his packing would withstand one of Kim Jong Uns atomic bombs. He prefers to keep them unrestored. Myself, I like to electronically restore them! That said. This price is wayyyyyyy high!

That's a high price for a vintage TV, but it's super clean and you won't find another like it very soon. Plus . . . DuMont quality.

It's interesting to see all those detailed photos. I have saved them for future reference.

I am amazed at how well preserved it is! Must have been kept in an ideal environment. Would love to buy one of his sets someday. Most are very clean.

Here's the posting I did on my Club 20 a couple of years ago.

http://www.videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=262402

The one I obtained was in an old mansion in southern California. The owners, who were about to sell the place, contacted radiomuseum.org to ask what to do with the set. Fortunately Ernst Erb at Radiomuseum knew I was into TVs and contacted me. From the description, it wasn't clear what the set was, but I contacted the owners and figured out it was a Club 20. That set has a 20BP4 (as noted above) which I needed for my DuMont RA-101 Westminster, which I consider an even more valuable set. A fellow antique TV gentleman in southern California went and checked the CRT for me, and found it had some life in it, so then I dropped everything and went and bought the set.

I ended up restoring the Club 20, enjoying it with its 20BP4 for a while, and then swapping out its 20BP4 for the substitute 19DP4 in my Westminster. I installed the 19DP4 in the Club 20 and resold it -- for a price I was very happy with, but far, far less than $3495! Mine also had the original base with it.

The Club 20 is certainly a very interesting set in its own right. I know of three of these in existence, although there may be another one or two out there that I haven't heard about yet.

This set was in my collection at one point. Here's a thread I made on it. Sorry about the broken photo links :(

The 75-ohm phono jack antenna input is unique among all early TV sets I have ever seen.

New to this forum...first time poster. Forgive me if I am posting in wrong place.
A relative of mine recently passed away....leaving me a Dumont Westminster Series II. Its condition is what I imagine it to be coming off the factory line and has seen limited use...single owner in their parlor since the 50's. We are cleaning out the place this summer and I am considering bringing it north to my home as I have fond memories of it as a child. My concerns are logistical...size/weight. I can not seem to find any dimensions online. Could someone here be kind enough to let me know the dimensions of that particular model. A bit concerned my wife will not like it taking up half the study.

If it is too much for me to handle I am considering inquiries from folks that would give it a good home. It is near Passaic NJ, where I understand it was manufactured. I see their is a museum in Passaic that has earlier model and gives regular demos.

Thank you.

Isn't this the same DuMont you posted about here in 2009?

It looks to be in great condition though I am not sure it works...I don't want to power it up for fear of blowing something. Thoughts?

Also, I don't recall the movement in the screen portion....I believe the screen in our set is fixed. Is this perhaps an indication of an alternate model that I should be researching?

It has sat in my grandparents' parlor for as long as I can remember...because I have expressed interest and curiosity in the piece, it has been offered to me for the taking.

The moving cost, restoration, and finding a suitable floor space in my cramped apartment are all concerns.....though, I fear that in my family circle, I am the only one that sees the great value in such a piece.

Thanks for any input...I hope this thread is not too stale to get some responses.

Thanks for the info, Tom. I'll consider posting it. The set is in NJ.

I will not power it up as you confirmed my fears regarding damaging it.

The series II also seems to be quite rare...only came across one other in my brief research:

Yes...I forgot that I had looked into it ~10 years ago. Now that both grandparents have passed it's time to make the choice on bring it home or finding a new one.

If you search for “dumont westminster” at this website, you’ll get a list of info pages for three DuMonts, including your model:

https://www.radiomuseum.org/

Dimensions aren’t given for your model, but one of the other sets has dimensions, and perhaps you can guesstimate from that.

I consider that a very desirable set — uncommon, and quite expensive when new. Early DuMonts were also well engineered.
