Hello,

I've got a universal ptr-81b that driving me nutz !, I did a cap replacement and cleanup but,

I cant get any stations below about 1300 kc. It looks like to LO is dying below that frequency.

This set uses a seperate oscillator ( not an autodyne ).

A similar set is also made with the Candle name, but both are made by Tokyo Transistor Corp.

I can't find a sams listing for this one, anyone have any ideas ?.

Thanks

Bob R.

Here's the six (6) transistor version of your radio:

And a really good webpage on how to restore one:

I'll have to check my Photofact collection of schematics to see if I can find it under another name.

You can check to see if your LO is really dropping out by tuning in the LO signal with another radio.

Have you tried adjusting the oscillator coil? If that doesn't help, I would agree to replace that stages Transistor.
