hi folks,

I have a model 214 solid state 1970s zenith.

the fused 60 mA power resistor right off the AC line is either 620 or 680 ohms.

the print is very light on it and I can not decipher the second number very well.

does anyone have a schematic to share or know the value of the resistor ?

Model: B-214W

the prefix and suffix can vary between W and other letters depending on the cabinet style.

here is the thread with a better description of the radio:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=339520&p=2845898#p2845898

thanks.

steve

mucho thanks.

i get a "forbidden 403" error. radiomuseum has always been a PITA for me, i gave up years ago putting up with their BS.

anyway...

i had a set like this when i was a kid. god knows what happened to it, but as i remember, it was a hot little set with nice audio from a 4 inch speaker. this set that i recently found on the bay just did not "have it".

my power resistor is reading 820 and decreasing the voltage about 20 volts in the set. that's enough to replace it as when i used a 620 that i had on hand, volume increased and reception became much better.

this set "has it" now :) .

the original 3 watt resistor ran super finger burning hot (set is restored). if i replace it with a 7 watt 680 ohm wirewound, it is no longer a "fused" resistor. it's just a resistor :| .

I have one of these but not wood grain, the model # is E-210P Canadian version, also has a 680 ohm power resistor.

I knew where you were going when you said "Hi Rocco" :)

Actually...I have never sold any of my collection, I had plans to do a complete makeover on this Zenith but, you know how it goes, too many radios, not enough time.

I will keep you in mind though.

You know that you can get wood grain Mac Tac and just stick it on this thing like you wanted, Right?
Do they still make wood grain Mac Tac?

Steve, you should know by now that if you ask a question on this board you're gonna get 437 replies with 27 different schematics of your radio, not to mention various photos of that model Zenith, and don't forget Greg's ability to dig up unobtainable classified government documents of why you need to replace that resistor with a 680 ohm 3 watt. :)

"the" story behind this was when i was in 7th grade. my algebra teacher gave me his because it was broken and he knew that i could fix it.

when i did, i believe it was the filter capacitor causing hum, he was so happy that i gave it more life.

eventually it died again, probably the output transistor or something.
