Glad you have them working !

It's possible that you have a hairline crack in circuit board around the red mounting stud and tightening caused the copper traces to make contact, but may just have been the battery orientation---you can loosen the stud again and gently tap on circuit board in that area (using a non-metallic item to avoid any shorting) with radio playing to verify...

The 275 sounds as though it does need electrolytic cap replacement, though I've seen the audio driver transistors bad in a couple sets---fortunately, they are socketed and easy to swap out...

What do you think of the 400's audio ? Those speakers are impressive...

Yes, John, the 400's speaker is definitely a cut above. This little radio really sounds good. I am glad that I tried it out because for several years I thought it was broken.
