If you run CB radios out of band, the problem is making sure the out of band
suppression that worked for 11 meters still works for 10 meters. Some of old 11 meter
CB antennes were also spec'd for 10 meters by setting them with a SWR bridge. Ive got
one that just needs about 8 inches snipped off the last whip.

Gave away all my 23 channel ( & less ) transceivers years ago, both tube & S.S.--- but did keep my old Sonar model "H" tube set, though, for sentimental reasons ( 1st one given to me as a kid ) & it still works... Yes, there are many parts that can be salvaged as well as the finals for other projects, but how often would you "dig" into them ?

If it wasn't for all the "trash" & skip, they would be great for local communication in rural areas---knew people as a kid who couldn't afford a phone & CB kept them "in touch" with friends & family...

I have an older book that details mods that can be done to CB radios to either increase power, add more channels or both. Gave a warning at the beginning that the mods could be illegal in the US. I guess they had to say that so they would be off the hook in case someone got caught and told them what book they got the info from.

A lot of the CB people use the cheapest amplifier that give the most output. The result is they splatter all over the place. I run a clean amp. (Class B) and keep the modulation down. BTW, I do sometimes catch hams down on 11m up close to 10m. Sometimes they try to give me a hard time but usually they don't. When they do I gust ignore them for being a jerk.
