Picked up this "Space Age" (1970's?) transistor AM/FM Stereo 8 - Track player recently. Works/sounds great on all functions. Two problems. Rod antenna needs to be replaced. On/off pilot light appears to be blown. Anyone know how to dissassemble this unit to get at the antenna and lamp? I can't figure it out. Also, Sams data is at TSM-131. Can anyone share that with me? TIA BOB

You're in luck. I just ordered TSM-131, along with a few other Photofact manuals. Should be here in a few days. Will be happy to scan the schematic and send it to you. PM me with your email addy and I'll send it along.

Hi Bob, To disassemble the cabinet is fairly easy. You lift the top half of the case off first by unscrewing two philips head screws located under ther top handle. The top half should then lift off. You can then access the telescopic antenna. You then can then see four philips head screws holding the chassis to the bottom half of the case inside on four corners of the chassis. Also unscrew the headphone jack nut at the bottom of the case. Undo those and the bottom half of the case can be removed. The front panel is held to the chassis by four philips head screws. Remove the knobs undo the screws and unscrew the microphone socket nut and the front panel will come off giving access to the lamps. Normally the power lamp and the FM stereo lamp is blown on these. The best way to get the right globe for these is to measure the voltage across the leads. I have seen some variations in voltages on these depending on build models. They used those grain of wheat style bulbs. I used grommets to remount replacements in the ones I have repaired as the originals had rubber mounts that are usually deteroirated with age.

crvee8: THANKS!! That is exactly the type of dissassembley information I was looking for. Would never have figured it out without your gracious assistance. Will try to get to it in the next couple of days. With your instructions, replacing the antenna and lamps should be no problem. Interesting that the Sams data does not contain the dissassembly information or the lamp specifications. Thanks again. BOB

Used to work on those way back when. Pretty easy to take apart, and those little bulbs don't last too long. Odd looking unit. We sold 'em new back in 1969-70

Hey Bob, Got the Sams TSM-131 today and it has your Weltron in it. Wow! What a throwback to 1972 and 8 track players. These are pretty collectible now on ePay, but I wouldn't buy one. No offense, it's just not my style........ anymore. ~ Mitch ~

WANDOO: No need to try to fing an "exact" replacement. The trick is to find a rod antenna with the correct mounting congiguration. Over the years, I have built up quite a stock of rod antennas, so replacement was easy for me, once I found out how to take the cabinet apart. My set works great with my "generic" replacement antenna. BOB

Mitch,
Thanks for the schematics. I was given one of these a while ago and it works so far. The white plastic is yellowing in places but looks like to much work to restore finish. Sure is big though.

Hi Jay, There's more information on the Weltron in TSM-121... diagrams, pictures, etc. Something like 13 pages of information if I recall correctly. There's one eBay seller who has multiple copies of that issue, (and others) for about $7.50 shipped. Cheapest source I know of. No affiliation. http://www.ebay.com/itm/150830940982?ss ... 1438.l2649~ Mitch ~
