not seeing any ads for most commonly used transistor radio electronic components. capacitors and stuff. especially radial capacitors in the 10v range. anyone specializing in transistor radio parts ? I see Allied looking pretty good so far

I find Mouser to be much better than MCM. Prices are better.Inventory is broader. Shipping is MUCH better both in terms of price and the care they take of the merchandise. Another company much like Mouser is Digi-Key.

And there's Newark. Owned by the same people who own MCM but compete with Mouser, Allied and Digikey who sell to everybody but are focused mainly on manufacturing. MCM is directed more toward the service industry.

I see Allied looking pretty good so far I get all my stuff at HSC since it's about a mile from my house. But the rest of you guys are not so blessed. Radio Shack, of all places, has a lot of likely candidates, since low-voltage caps are used for everything. I rarely see the super-low-voltage caps in values we would use, so I just use 25 and 50V. They are still generally a lot smaller than the old 6 and 10V types. Brett

how do they do electronics in southern cal ? I was getting electrocuted everywhere I went with lightning bolts coming out of my fingers whatever I touched. I am used to humid Florida when only winter produces moderate static buildup

I live up North in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale, and at times you get shocks touching the water coming out of the faucet when go to wash your hands. Brett

Most of the regular retail stores sell 85-degree capacitors. For only about a penny more per device, you can buy 105-degree capacitors from Digi-Key and Mouser. Also, you can buy metal-film, flameproof resistors, with 1% tolerances, for almost nothing.
Mouser has no minimum order. Additionally, when something goes back-order, and they ship it to you a couple of weeks later, they don't charge additional shipping. Mouser packs superbly. MCM often omits packing material altogether, occasionally causing the contents to self-destruct. MCM charges retail prices. Mouser and Digi-Key charge wholesale prices.
At my repair shop, we order from Mouser once or twice a week. I order from MCM about once a month. If you're looking for non-counterfeit Japanese transistors, try B&D Electronics.
