Good progress after some frustrating times. I got the radio working again and it was kind of exciting to hear what this radio sounds like after being dead for long a time. Thanks to all those who input with helpful suggestions, especially Mitch, John and Rick. Besides all the e-lytics, I also replaced one of the RF mixer oscillator transistors which was suspect. I am now motivated to get this working as good as it can for a vintage radio.
My question is should I go ahead and replace all the transistors? Although the original TRs are very difficult to get, NTE makes equivalents to all of them. They also told me that they are pretty much drop ins. However as I am new to this, I do not want to end up make it worse by switching the transistors if these will cause biasing or impedance match problems etc. Of course I have more work left to clean up and align so that I can enjoy my newly resurrected radio.
