Just got this radio SOny CRF-230 and can't figure out why the FM is loud and strong but the AM & SW stations are so low in volume you have to put your ear next to the speaker at full volume just to barely hear anything? Is there something I am doing wrong?? Very puzzled.
Thanks
Rock

The RF and IF circuits are differnts for AM and FM.
Probably you have some IF AM transformers damaged or missaligned.

It could be just a dirty switch. For example, I would start by cleaning the FM1 and FM2 band selector switches. In their "out" position, they need to connect AM/SW audio to the amplifier section. The faint audio you are hearing might be due to capacitive leakage in the switch but the actual connection is not being made.

It is 2 radios in one that share the same AF amp and power supply. I would start by checking the obvious like switches. Often if they are dirty moving them or gently shaking them reveals the problem. Otherwise, you need to work towards the front end (from the AF amp), injecting a signal to isolate the stage that is causing the trouble.
