Hi all-
My Realtone TR-970 (3-band, MW-SW-LW) works fine on MW, but receives weakly on SW.
Who would you-all recommend to work on it?

Thanks much,
Lew

Real dumb question time: you've checked the bandswitch, antenna connections, etc., right? The fact that your radio is receiving SW, but weakly, implies maybe you just need the bandswitch cleaned or perhaps a better antenna connected to the radio, especially if your radio only has a whip antenna. My 1960's & 70's transistor multiband radios don't receive much SW off the whip itself.

Hi Lew,

I've kind of admired that radio. Cool styling. Also sold under the trade name Lincoln.
The schematic is in TSM-27 (Realtone) and TSM-32 (Lincoln). I can scan it for you if you'd like.

As far as repair, it may just need a touchup on the front end trimmer cap.
But I'd suggest a Q-Tip and 90% isopropanol alcohol on the bandswitch before anything else.

Check, and double check: no improvement in SW reception. Thanks for the tips.

This isn't a communications style receiver, so I wouldn't expect great performance from it.
Adding a longwire antenna instead of the whip will really help here.

If you're convinced it needs an alignment, adjust A13 and A15, noting there original positions.
Do not adjust A12 and A14, unless you really know what you're doing.
It's possible you can gain a bit more sensitivity by slightly adjusting the if cans,
but more than likely they're OK.

It's easy to get in there and twiddle on those adjustments only to find you've made things worse.
Been there, done that.

That sounds like real good advice.
Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone.
