Came out of a storage container, 1982 Sharp GF-575ZB, 16 watts per channel, uses 10-D batteries, 27 inch long. SW1 SW2 AM FM 21 lbs., must be carried on shoulder. Has functions I've not seen before. Hopefully this qualifies as a transistor radio.

Hi everyone, I am Jordan, or SpeakerFreak95, (found on youtube) I am new to this site, but I have always enjoyed vintage audio equipment and radios. I would post pictures of some of my radios, but I don't know how at this point......
{Moderator note: You can use the "Upload attachment" feature to post pictures which must be 800 pixels or less and 250 k or less in size. Alternatively, you can use a photo hosting site and post the picture's URL using the Img codes}

Welcome to ARF, Jordan !
Looking forward to viewing your radio pics...
Think I've seen some of your YouTube videos when using another computer with hi-speed connection... Still on dial-up here...

I am still working on ulpaoding pics, but here is one of my transistor radios....A Philco "Transistor 700" or T-700, just a 20uF capacitor swap and it works really well now. I will replace the other capacitors soon, as they are starting to go like the 20 did, they are getting fat....if anyone know what I mean, they are starting to push their insides...out of the cans, or long story short....just swelling. But for now, it works really well! This is my Youtube channel, or a video from it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isVUHZs_3eA&feature=plcp

wow, I just joined and am poking around and I recognized quite a few radios from the pics you all posted that have crossed my desk.
Why? full disclosure...I am a recovering vintage stereo collector (Yes, AK member as well). It got to around 100pcs before I snapped to. Now the lady and I started an antique/collectible biz and I snap up electronics and get em working and put em in the shop. Table tops need loving too.
I love these little feats of assembly. Dont do tubes tho. Or at least try not to.

Here's my latest aquisition. A Westinghouse H-707P6GP in green. It's in great shape. I understand there pretty common pocket radios but heck I don't care. Except for the obliglatory crackle while adjusting the volume it sounds great. This is my 5th. transistor radio and I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about radios in general but thanks to you guys and reading some of the older threads I'm learnin'. Followed one thread on here about how interest and prices on these little radios has dropped off dramatically. I guess it boils down to what the collector wants. Of course I like (or lust after) the reverse painted expensive ones but my requirements are based a little more on practicality. They must still play, The case sould be in good shape, and if I knock one into the water while fishin' it's not the end of the world. For a 4.99 winning bid on Ebay with realistic shipping this one fell right into my criteria

They must still play, If you want to learn how to repair them, just ask. That "obligatory crackle" for example, is simply caused by the carbon trace inside the VC being worn thin in one or more places. The solution, since they can't really be repaired, is simply to replace them. They are pretty much all the same value, 5K resistance. If you can't locate a supplier of them, it's helpful to have some junker donors available to test for a smooth VC. AFA prices, the most desirable sets, most of which are reverse painted Japanese models, still command pretty substantial bids on The Bay.

I've picked up a few new radios in the last month or two. I'm not familiar with how to post pics here so I'll just include this link to my Flickr collection site. The first 10 entries are the newest radios (excluding the black Toshiba 6TR-186) http://www.flickr.com/photos/transistor_radios/

The previous owner of this Heathkit GR-151 was determined not to haul it back home from yesterdays local hamfest. He knocked my $5 offer down to $3 Six "C" cells and a little pot cleaning later and it sings pretty good for a DIY from 40 years ago. Even got the assembly manual, complete with all the original builders proceedural check marks. An additional manual covers the modification from the originally equipped single 9 volter to the longer lasting 6 C's. That manual is dated '66. Bruce Webster
