I am trying to remove the PL-108 connector on the front panel of a BC-1023-A marker beacon receiver.

The problem is simple -- the connector will not clear the mounting hole. Does anyone have specific experience mounting/unmounting the PL-108 connector?

Regards,
Curly

Hi "Curly",

No.

However, from here it looks like the top part is screwed onto the part that penetrates the front panel. And, it looks like there's enough room to grab the latter with channel-lock type pliers while you take off the top part with a wrench.

Of course this assumes you're not trying to save the connector.

Take care, my friend.

Hi Curly,

Since the knurled ring of the connector has wrench flats milled in the sides,
and there appears to be a junction line between that and the lower section...

One would expect the upper part to unscrew. Please use a proper wrench, not pliers.
The connector needs to be mounted to the panel as intended to provide support.

The connector may contain a fuse.

Of course Leigh is correct, as he almost always is. :D

I should not have posted before the drugs for treatment for an attack by a swarm of bees has worn off.

As Gilda often said, "Never mind!"

Curly,

The PL-108 is a "Breeze" style connector where the panel mount portion of the connector has internal threads and the mating plug has external threads. If it won't turn freely with a wrench on the flats as Leigh suggested, you may need to put some sort of penetrating oil at the seam to help it out.

Thank you, Chuck, Leigh and Sean. Yes, the connector did unscrew.

I used a large crescent wrench with two layers of a repurposed aluminum soda can wrapped around the connector knurled O.D. Absolutely no damage.

It always bothers me when I see a beautiful Tek or HP with jaw marks on rounded off knurl nuts and panel damage!

Regards,
Curly
