That's a really strange setup Chuck. I see in the schematic that the wire coming out of the BFO is shielded. I'm assuming that's running up physically close to the 2nd IF amp - probably to prevent the BFO signal radiating into the other IF stages or trying to mix with the RF. Anyway, when it gets close to T2 take two Insulated wires, about 1 inch long and give them about 3 or 4 twists to make your gimmick. It isn't precise, but it will be close enough for what you're doing. To get more capacitance, twist it a bit tighter, to reduce the amount of BFO injection, untwist it a bit. Give it a try and see what happens.

I just disconnected the the"gimmick" line and turned on the SX-99-- what a difference!! The AVC works, the S-meter now works, and receiver sensitivity has improved! Wow.
Chuck, thanks for your time and expertise that you have given to this SX-99 project- I really appreciate it.

Hi, W7TSS (phonodoc) Bob. I am helping with repair of a new hams S99. We have a bad T2. Next to take apart and check the micas. Thanks to all for the help you gave Chuck.
