I found a company that will rewind a transformer but I need the original transformer. Does anyone have an original they would sell? Working or not. Thanks

Ohmsyt...

Just out of curiousity what will they charge you to rewind a transformer,
or what are you willing to pay for a good used one?

I think it is great you want to restore that radio instead of giving up on it,
but from a practical standpoint I'd be looking for a parts set with a good
transformer. Here's one that sold on eBay with a speaker and manual for
about 25 bucks:

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LAFAYETTE-H ... 0714215421

To me, that is a no brainer--transformer, unhacked chassis, set of tubes,
set of spare parts (dial scale, IFTs, etc.)
and a manual all rolled into one. They don't seem to go
for a lot of money looking at other past auctions.

Just a thought...

Pete

Hey this is so funny, that is the radio I bought. Piece of junk, dont be fooled by the pics. Not original at all. Power supply is not original, tubes changed and removed to other positions on board, different diode setup, a tube added for dc supply, resistor pack or network used to lower voltages, sorry wiring and so forth, I could go on. A pig in a poke if there ever was one.
I found a company that would rewind it for me but I need the original transformer. They just dont make new ones. I have found a suitable replacement but it is $50. And last night to top it all off someone came in the garage and knocked it in the floor and broke all the tubes. I guess I am going to start over but I dont want to. I worked on it so long I cant give it up to the trash.
I will start on it tonight and take it completely down and build it as if it was a kit. I hate to do it but I cant straighten out the chassis unless I do. I feel like a drowning man. HELP.
If anyone knows of a good or bad transformer PLEASE contact me. Thanks for looking on ebay for me. I appreciate your help, you just did not know it was mine already.

I have been satisfied with transformers I bought from this URL.
It takes a lot of looking, but you may find one you can use.
I have no financial interest in it, I searched, ordered, and it was what I ordered.

Option XXIIX - put a small filament transformed over the extra hole in the chassis.

Thanks for the URL. That is what I planned on doing. I am not going to find a new transformer anywhere close to the voltages I need. I talked to Hammond and they gave me the same idea. Get a small filament voltage transformer and then get as close as you can with the larger voltage and make it work. Over voltage is not a real problem to deal with except the heat. I have located a 170 volt with center tap at 110 ma. I think I can probally use it if I get the caps right. I will play with it on the bench to see if I am in the ball park. But I am still holding out for something better. Thanks

Stumbled on here looking for more info, got mine from my grandfather in the '80's (he bought it new) worked fine two years ago, now there is a loud annoying noise in the audio(regardless of volume, in 'send' mode when it's supposed to be silent, or any other setting), but I can still make out some transmissions with the volume cranked, but it's very distorted and faint.

Sounds like you have bad filter caps. Actually, all of the electrolytic and paper caps in this set should be replaced. The paper caps in this set look like little aluminum cylinders covered with gray plastic and almost always have electrical leakage at this point in time.

The filter caps are the most likely the cause. It is an easy job just make sure you replace power supply are done first. Sometimes you can replace them an fix it. But I would replace all considering the age. Mine was to far gone to repair. Hope yours has a better out come. Keep us informed
