I tried searching for this topic, but I couldn't find anything. Sorry if has been discussed before.
Anyways:

Has anyone had experience with this or similar kits? How do they perform?
Could measurements like this be done with a freq. counter as well, I wonder? Seems like it just measures the oscillator and subtracts the IF, not really sure.

Thanks!

EDIT: I have found other posts covering this.

Last summer I bought a total of five kits from N3ZI. I bought blue two line displays from a Chinese vendor on eBay. The kits were under $20 each w/o display. It looks like he has raised the price this year to $25. The displays were cheap, too.

This is how I ended up putting them in cabinets.

They are very easy to build and LOTS of fun to use. There is a little tinkering around with the attachment to the radio.

Will be glad to advise you more.

I happen to like Nixies, and have quite a few old counters around. I designed this circuit around ttl logic to allow me to use my old nixie counters as displays for my old receivers. Works great.

Here it is, "in action" in my late night monitoring station, connected to my Hallicrafters SX-28A with a panadaptor above.

TubeNut - What a great picture! I'm jealous, and your nixie display sure looks nice!

I used to work for Burroughs Corporation and actually worked on calculators with Nixie displays. I believe that the Nixie tube was a Burroughs Corp. invention. I may even have a few tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

Great picture. Is that a birdcage replica lightbulb?

Thankyou Tom and Steve for the nice comments. Wow, actually working for the Burroughs Corporation would have sure been an experience. I think your right about them inventing the nixie.
I see guys wrecking nixie equipment for clocks. I don't really like that. I would much rather give nixie equipment a purpose without destroying it's surroundings. That counter you see is only good to 5MHz. The board I designed is good to 30 or so MHz. I really don't care since I usually only cruze the BCB 160 and 80 Meter bands. The main thing is, that old counter now has a reason for being turned on.
Steve, your right about the Lamp, it's a repro birdcage. (good eyes)
