I tend to mix and match receivers and transmitters a lot so the step up transformer is just one more item to deal with when moving the receiver around. I was surprised that it wasn't configurable for 120 volts but it isn't really a problem. It is a really nice performing receiver so I will overlook its voltage appetite
I am in a lightning prone area so the gear is disconnected when not in use (and when storms are in the area). I have a surge suppressor at the main AC distribution point (I have multiple outbuildings) along with additional suppressors at the breaker panel in each structure. I added all of this after losing a well pump, computer, security lights, etc after a lightning strike in 1991 and since then I have fortunately suffered no losses. Most of the vintage gear is in one large room and the separate panel is fed by a shut off switch so when the gear is off it is fairly well isolated from the line and the gear in other rooms has its own shut off switches. I do this both for lightning protection but also because I don't like leaving even completely restored vintage gear hooked to the line when I am gone.
