I recently acquired this receiver and have finished recapping it along with replacing several resistors that were out of spec. I followed the alignment precedures laid out in the schematic and got a strong signal from my generator. Strange thing is that I get very poor reception from everything else including my AM transmitter. I have a good antenna hooked up to it and all the tubes have been checked out and are fine. If I hook up an antenna directly to the grid cap on the 6K8 the reception gets better but only marginally. Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated.

My signal generator does not have an indicator for "output level". It was set to 455KC as instructed by the schematic. I'm still kinda new to aligning radios so be kind if I screwed up.

When doing any alignment it is essential to keep reducing the generator's output level to the lowest usable level to get an indication. This is to insure that the radio has good sensitivity.
Do you have the instruction manual for the generator?

The generator is on loan. Was given a crash course on it's operation. I have aligned some other sets successfully but will obtain the manual and see what it says about output adjustments..

455 kHz is only used to align the IF transformers. Now you need to align the RF section using other frequencies for each band. Those frequencies and the adjustments involved are specified in the alignment procedure outlined in the S-20R service information.
