Today I received a new receiver that I think is going to get a lot of use. It is a model CR91 and was made by SRT (a Swedish affiliate of ITT) and covers from 10 Khz. to 30 Mhz. in selectable tuning steps of 1, 10, and 100 hertz. The mechanical filters provide a variety of bandwidths from 300 hertz through 6.8 Khz. and it has separate SSB filters for ISB use. The shape factors of these 200 khz. mechanical filters are very good, the SSB filters are specified at 3.25 Khz. at 3 db down and 3.75 at 60 db down.

The only downside is the power supply card is 240 volts only so I have to use a step up transformer with it.

Looks like a nice one Rodger. I'm jealous.

Yeah, that 240 volt set-up is going to be a real hassle.

You should ship it to me so you don't have any more headaches.

An isolated step-up transformer does has its benefits...

The radio is much more likely to survive a nearby lightning strike on the electrical lines

I tend to mix and match receivers and transmitters a lot so the step up transformer is just one more item to deal with when moving the receiver around. I was surprised that it wasn't configurable for 120 volts but it isn't really a problem. It is a really nice performing receiver so I will overlook its voltage appetite :)

I am in a lightning prone area so the gear is disconnected when not in use (and when storms are in the area). I have a surge suppressor at the main AC distribution point (I have multiple outbuildings) along with additional suppressors at the breaker panel in each structure. I added all of this after losing a well pump, computer, security lights, etc after a lightning strike in 1991 and since then I have fortunately suffered no losses. Most of the vintage gear is in one large room and the separate panel is fed by a shut off switch so when the gear is off it is fairly well isolated from the line and the gear in other rooms has its own shut off switches. I do this both for lightning protection but also because I don't like leaving even completely restored vintage gear hooked to the line when I am gone.
