Had one years ago, it's a winner. None of the issues that the 651S-1, except for the card extenders required for servicing. Also has an oddball (450 KHz) IF so filters are hard to come by, but if it's loaded up that's not a problem.

Mine wouldn't tune when I got it, there was a transistor in the optical encoder that was bad. I sold it at Dayton years ago to a Japanese ham.

I have never had the pleasure of using a 851S-1 receiver but a friend in Japan is putting together a complete HF-8XXX setup and he is impressed with the receiver.

I wouldn't pass it up!
