This is a really nice amp/receiver. Set of quad 7591's for the output tubes. It works but a fella brought it to me to put one of these upgrade kits into it. Here's a link if you're not familiar with this upgrade. "Resto-Paks Upgrade Kits!!" at the bottom of the page.
http://fisherdoctor.com/fisherdoc.html

The dial lamps in this set are also burned out. This same "FisherDoc" wants $35+ for a pair of bulbs. I think this is outrageous. Unless they just can't be found anywhere else, as is what he says. I've been all over Ebay and nothing. All over the internet and nothing.

They are 1-3/4" long, 1/4" in diameter and look like a fuse except the ends are conical in shape. They're rated at 6.3 volts 2 watts. Half of the glass on them is coated with what appears to have been some kind of ceramic paint (white) but this is pretty flaked away. The ones that are blown have "Germany" on them and possibly a number that even under magnification I can't make out.

Does anyone have these or know where to get them? If I can't find any I was considering a set of bright LED's and I could solder them in. Does this sound like a viable option? There's plenty of room.

Thanks,
Johnny

The last time I had to replace those (about 2 years ago) they were available from www.mmcmaster.com and also from www.yachtlights.com and www.1000bulbs.com

They are available from various sources also as LEDs and dimmable LEDs; I have not converted to LEDs, but am also considering it. Wondering if the power supply would need tweaking...

Johnny,

Look for "festoon bulbs" or "festoon lamps" & see if they are what you're looking for...

Those are most frequntly referred to as "fuse lamps" I am looking at page 9 of Mat Elrctronics catalog and see they are 10 for $7.50. I have also seen them at Mouser, and MCM Electronics. Those were a popular lamp in the 1970's stereos.

If Al Pugliese (Fisherdoc) has them, he is probably the only one. This eBay seller custom-makes LED replacements.

If 3/16" diameter is too skinny, he can probably make them for you in 1/4"

These are readily available, but only 1 1/4" long. I haven't tried to adapt one to my Fisher yet, but I think I can wrap one end in thin copper to fit the holder.

Tom that's a good idea with the thin copper. All I can find is 1-1/4" too. And the one place I found them at they are only $1.99 ea. but a minimum order of $7.99 so I gotta buy five and shipping is over $11. So still over $20 but I get 5 of them. And Als' price of $35 plus what ever he gets for shipping is still outrageous.

Appreciate all the info guys. Especially now knowing what they're actually called. But I think I'll buy the 5 for $20. I measured the least amount of length to fit into the bulb clips and at 1-1/4" long I have about 1/32" at each end. The shorter ones just might snap right in.

Thanks,
Johnny

Found these on Ebay. Look exactly like mine. Same dimensions, voltage at 6.3V. Hope it's them.

The guy told me he wasn't sure on the wattage but if they're 2-3 watts they'll work fine. At least they're the correct length and diameter and they do look exactly like mine. And a h*** of a lot cheaper then $35 for two.

But don't order them all. I was thinking about going back for some more. :)

Well I think he's got 2 left now. I was lucky and got another set for this guys radio. But I have a problem now.

I installed the kit from the fisherdoc and the set played great here for several hours. It was taken home and has been playing great there until I got a call this morning that a bunch of sparks, popping and smoke came out of it and it's nothing but static now. At least it sounds like it has an audio circuit left if there's static.

Won't know until I get it back sometime this coming week. Sure am anxious to know what failed. One thing I wasn't too impressed with was the silicon diode package that we replaced the selenium rectifier with. It just looked very cheap. We'll see soon enough.

Just had to tell you. Got all the bugs worked out of this Fisher 800B and what an amp. New set of JJ Tesla's, new volume control, installed the fisherdoc's kit and replaced a lot caps and resistors and it sounds great.

Thanks for your help in the various areas.

Johnny
