I think any repair is highly unlikely.

Those "flexible resistors" were used because low-value carbon comps were not available.
There's nothing particularly special about them. Power dissipation was low to moderate.

The issue with their manufacture was that resistance wire cannot be soldered.
Consequently the ends had solderable ferrules that were crimped onto the wire.

I usually disconnect one end, leaving the item in place for cosmetics.
Then put a modern resistor at one end and run a wire to the other end.

Leigh, thanks for this information and others that you post. I learn a lot from them. Keep up the good work.

Here is an AK flexible resistor I was able to rebuild. It is from an AK 155 (19 ohms pilot lamp shunt). I used the original resistance wire (which was broken away from the terminal at one end). I ground off the brass rivets on both ends, then reattached the resistance wire using 4-40 brass hardware and small washers. The insulator is a piece of small spaghetti tubing. The ends were insulated using a couple of layers of shrink tubing. Obviously the order of reassembly is critical. It works and the resistance is within 10%.
