Hi All,

I found a lone capacitor...hiding in plain sight! I am having trouble tracking it down on my diagram. The radio works despite it still being there however it appears to be tied into the push button array which I have not tested. The capacitor is tied into (from what I can tell) pin 4 and 9 of one of the front/back pieces to the bandwith dial (Push Button - Radio - Short Wave - Phono). Looking at the diagram, this appears to be "S3 Rear".

The thing that I cannot tell, is that there is nothing (in the diagram) for pin 9 on S3 Rear, however the capacitor and a wire leading to tube 12SQ7 are soldered there. My assumption, is that it was not in use so the factory used it as a junction point for the capacitor and wire from 12SQ7. If that is so, everything else would lead me to believe this is capacitor C13 (.0018) listed in the diagram. Can anyone positively identify this capacitor?

Sorry, I can't help answer your question but maybe you can help with mine, also posted yesterday: "What kind of cap is this?" Your set has a cap at far-right center in the photo, rectangular, with an (upside down) 2. That's what my questions was. Is it a mica cap?

glasdav,

It's in a tight area and I cannot turn it. I ordered a set of orange dipped capacitors from justradios.com, so I'll cut this guy out in a few days to identify.

stoutimore,

Yes, that is a mica capacitor. I asked the same question (about the same component) when I first started on this project. :)

Thanks. Is there an RCA equivalent to your set? I'm working on an RCA 28x5, and it's supposed to be identical to Westinhouse 12x16.

stout,

From what I learned here, RCA basically built my chassis. I looked over at nostalgiaair.org and compared diagrams of my WR12X15 with the next model back from the RCA 28x5 (the 28x4). That looks to be a match..same tubes and features...wiring is a little different.

I received my pack of capacitors from JustRadios.com today, removed the old capacitor and verified it was indeed .0018. I replaced it with a .0020 capacitor. Everything is working fine...no real difference in sound however the lower channels are coming in a bit louder than before.
