I just restored one of these philcos and used a sub "turnover" that had a 1.4 volt output. Got it from VM Audio Enthusiasts (Gary) . It was a Pfanssteil plug in that came with a turnover holder and it had a 78 3 mil saphire needle on each side so that you can flip it and have a new needle instantly. It worked just fine. The original cartridge you have is an Astatic 146 which is a rare bird nowadays. Note: There is a voltage divider that the original cartridge is connected to and I recommend you eliminate it since you sub cartridge will not have as much output at that old Astatic 146 which originally put out about 4 volts or so.
