Got this set from my grandfather along with a few others. My grandfather was apparently into the hobby years ago. This set is much older then the sets i'm usually exposed to. The set is in good physical condition, and I expected to do a basic recap, cord replacement and clean the tuner. But of course every tube was missing..... :(. I believe these early triode tubes are expensive. What to do? (also a schematic would be nice)

You can find a schematic and also the tubes needed here: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/atwater_46.html .

Although the tubes are listed as CX326, etc., this is roughly equivalent to the following list:

26, 26, 26, 27, 26, 112A, 112A, 80.

The 112As are sometimes listed as 12A or 212A as well.

Most of these are not so expensive if you buy good used ones. You might try advertising here in the Classified for a good used set of tubes for this radio.

If you try to buy new ones (especially globe style), things can get spendy pretty quickly on these types.

That's an easy set to work on.

A modern schematic is here: http://atwaterkent.info/TechData/Drawin ... 100sch.pdf

All of the original AK service data as well as Rider's pages are linked here (scroll down to the 46):
