Upon closer inspection of the four capacitor cans
one has five lugs with four used and the can has 2 , .1 .1 and 9.31marked on it
second has four lugs and four used and the can has .1, .1, .6 and 4.31 marked on it
third has four lugs and four used and the can has .1, .1, .5 and .1 marked on it.
fourth can has three lugs and three used and the can has 2 ,.1 and 6.31 marked on it.

That is the old capacitors that were in the can.

Were all those caps in one can ? I never seen that before.

Yes they were in that one can in the picture. The problem I now have is to figure out what value they were has you know from the past schematic reading is not my strong suit.

I usally take lots of pictures of the underside of the chassis before i start. Since the cans arent identified by a dotted line or something , tracing the circuitry may be the only way to figure it out.

Yes I know tracing the circuit might be the way but if trace it in the radio and can not follow it in the schematic I will still not understand.

Yeah schematics arent like a pictoral view, for instance in a hypothetical situation if the schematic shows a line from a tube pin 5 and connects to a 100 ohm resistor , you would trace the wire to its next termination point and find that resistor , the resistor may come directly off that pin or it may be on the other side of the chassis. You just have to map it out, it can take a while to translate the schematic to what your actually looking at.

Also trace from the schematic to the radio, not from the radio tomthe schematic. Its easier.

It might be better to tell us exactly what you do not understand.....for example:

1. Do you know the symbols?

2. Do you know how to look up a tube to get the pin numbers?

3. Do you know how the see the pin numbers on a tube socket?

4. In the radio you are working on: looking at the schematic, can you start at a tube pin, and identify all of the components it connects to?

If you respond to this post, please answer all 4 questions

Yes for the most part I understand what you asked then . I have one wire that I have a problem with in the first can I am working on .It leaves the can has a white or yellow wire and goes to resistor bar it then leave resistor bar has a blue wire and goes to .5 mfd cap on another can and then leaves and goes to pin 3 on tube 51 next to antenna ground terminal has a white wire .From resistor bar it also has green wire that goes to .6 lug on another can and then a white wire goes to pin 3 of tube 51 next to first if.

What is the question?

If you dont already have pin layout maybe this will help

Also when checking a chassis against a schematic , remember a schematic shows connections , not nessary physical wires . If you see a line on the schematic , it may or may not be a wire making that connection .

The question I have is what cap would that be and another question is the two caps circled together in blue on the schematic back on page 2 what value are they, I think 8 mfd correct or not.
