Your experiences in dealing with bubbles in veneer would be much appreciated. I was discussing this with a friend, but given my talent for screwing-up things which are close to being finished, thought I'd try to find as many ideas as possible. If I use the finest needle to inject watered-down glue, should I clamp it, or just hold it with my thumb? How do I deal with the potential for cracks. This is on the top, and I've already got most of the clear on the cabinet, probably just one heavy coat of lacquer on the top away from being ready to rub it with the fine abrasives.

You MUST clamp the bubble after injecting the glue! Also, clamp it down with a piece of wood so that there are no clamp marks when you are finished. Leave the clamps on overnight- don't rush it.

Don't forget to put a piece of wax paper over that bubble first before clamping a piece of wood on it. If any of that glue comes back out, it will glue that block to the veneer!! Carl.

I'd add a piece of rubber under the block, to conform to the surface. I might also give the lacquer a few more days to harden first.

I've taken care of bubbles by slicing a few times with the grain using a razor and then rubbing a slightly thinned glue solution with my fingers into the slices. The cuts are very thin and close back up nicely. Clamp with wax paper--yes.

I have found if you use a water soluble (probably not spelled correctly) like elmers even if some of the glue comes out you can wipe it with a damp cloth even after the glue has dried and get the excess off. I think it is best to try to appy the glue sparingly and not be tempted to apply to much. Otherwise you have more to do after you take the clamps off.

I managed to dent one spot by clamping too hard, so now have to deal with that...., but still thing I have the final coat on lacquer on it by the end of today.
