I selected an American Chestnut, with a satin finish, to redo the awful existing finish. This seems to be a popular finish for folks who don't want to go the stripping/refinishing route.
Has anyone worked with this PolyStain? If so, thoughts?
Thanks, Arthur

I'm not real familiar with an AK627 lowboy cabinet (all I can find is a cathedral), but polyshades isn't going to properly tone and match different types of woods on the same cabinet. If your cabinet has a different face wood than columns and trim, toned lacquer would be a better solution.

So you are saying that you want to put it over the existing finish? Frankly, that is the worst product on the market.

The original finish is virtually non existent. Yes, this is a lowboy cabinet. They did make one.

After a few coats. Really, does it look that bad?

Look at a 627 cathedral to see all the different shades and accents on that cabinet. I'm sure you can find some similar AK console pictures to give you an idea of some more correct colors to use instead of just one. That's the beauty of toned spray lacquers, they make it easier to duplicate the original cabinet colors. While I've never tried to strip poly, I've read where it is quite a chore, so you might want to keep that in mind also.

That's the color I chose.

If you're happy with how it looks that is all that counts. I was just pointing out other options and I'd bet a picture of your console in better lighting would not look as dark.

It is what it is. And what it is, I like.
