Spent the whole day working on this. Pulled the chassis and recapped, replaced a bad 35Z5, new line cord.
Replaced broken dial string, painted the metal plate behind the dial (paint flaking off).
Glued loose veneer and replaced a couple of very small spots where the veneer was missing. Made a lens using .015 PETG. Finished the cabinet with Minwax Red Oak stain. Lacquered with Minwax semi Gloss Clear Lacquer....blah, blah, blah.
Reassemble, plug in, turn it on, tune in your favorite oldies station, crack open a beer and enjoy.

Side Note: It takes Nucow 6 months with a team of Engineers and Artisans to do this.

Now that is quite the difference!! I never would have thought that anyone could bring the Grill-(white part) back so clean and bright white!! Congrats on a great little restoration, you should be proud!!!!

Excellent.
Is that dial cover cone-shaped or only looks that way?
If so how did you make it so its cone-shaped?

The truth is since I decided to do something with the knobs and the plate behind the dial graphics, I painted that grill with an off-white enamel. The phenolic material yellowed unevenly and cleaning had no effect so I decided to paint.

That was great, thanks for sharing your idea's and techniques. Where can you but the PETG material from? The radio looks great as well. Thanks.

I happened to get that plastic from Laird Plastics locally. They have an off-cuts shelf and the sheets I got were about double that size. They charged me $8.00 for 10 pieces.
Any plastics distributor should have this.
