This Silvertone 1620, AM/SW, good Silvertone eye tube, a back and all the knobs was like $10 or so at Kutztown last year because of the dial:

Using a photo of a good dial from Gary Rabbit, my wife attempted to print it on a foil-like paper, but the results were not useable. So we just used the photo itself for a dial. We printed it on glossy photo paper and then glued it to a piece of black mat board. I cut out the various holes with various woodworking curved chisels or gouges. It doesn't look too bad.

Here's the cabinet that I started with; it had the typical greenish degraded lacquer.

And here's the finished product. It's one that I'm glad to put behind me  .

It doesn't look too bad is right! It looks great. I would never even have known that it was a picture. Very good idea....Beautiful radio! :D

That does look nice!
Just for fun you could try printing that same photo on inkjet transparency film and overlaying it on foil.

Looks very good. Don't tell anyone, and they won't notice. I have done the same thing in the past. Usually the plastic dial cover distorts the view just enough to make it unable to be told from the original unless you happen to have the original in your hand right next to it.

Next time  ......BTW, I needed a BK42B ballast tube for this and they're hard to find. But I did locate a NOS L42B, which works if you change the dial bulb accordingly.
