Hi,

I am new to this forum and I am in the uk. I recently acquired an Automatic Radio model 660 which is a nice little woody. I want to restore it but the Decal is in such poor shape that I can't reproduce it with out a lot of guess work. It says Automatic Radio and has a red background. Can anyone please provide me with a photo of what the decal should look like?

Regards

Tim

Radio Daze sells a repro if you want to go that route:

Beat me to it Peter :)

Tim: Make sure that's the same size for your set before you order.

I actually was (sort of) the person responsible for that decal. I had an artist draw it from a sample I sent, and then it was given to Radio Daze for printing -- they got the artwork, I got a few free sets of decals out of the deal.

Hi,

Thankyou for your replies but it is not the right decal for a woody as it doesn't have the red background.

Hi,
Nice work Peter.

Snark, I doubt you will find the red background decal. I don't see much red in yours , unless you have seen another example.

If a person took the time, they could possibly make a background shape on a decal, then apply the second one over it. Use the image above to make a pattern.

Spray very lightly the red tone on decal material, then cut exactly to shape, apply that to the set. Next, your gold decal. Might be the only option you have.

To bad the decal has checked, and sort of in bad shape. Otherwise I'd be able to save the decal, leaving it on the cabinet.
If the set were mine, I'e even make an attempt to put a tiny bit of lacquer thinner on it with a Q tip. Very lightly rub the letters, and I'll bet you some gold would reappear. Going any further, the decal would start to wear away.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for you reply but I'm not after a decal, what I would like is a photo of one in better condition than mine so I can create an image and then print my own on Decal Paper.
So if anyone has a radio with the decal with a red background, please could you photograph it for me.

Hi Tim,
I understand what you want to do.
Can you use this as a basis for your artwork? I am not that good with graphics editing, but some of the guys here are. Maybe you too.
Taking that image above, then using their techniques, they can add in the right shade of red to the background, and the Logo on top.
The only thing you won't be able to do (unless you have an APLS printer) is to print the gold.
Have you searched for the model itself, and perhaps an owner of one of these will have a good image you can use?
Tim, let us see how you come along on the work, some might be able to use your method.
Take care,
