Rummaging through some boxes acquired from closed radio and tv shops I came across a 460 chassis, speaker, escutcheons and knobs. The chassis seemed familiar so I looked through my files and found where I had restored a Rivera 966 for a customer a few years ago. The parts where in great shape so I decided to build a cabinet. Once I get the cut outs true I will add the piece of walnut veneer to the front and then attach the pilasters.

Fred, I'm retired now and have the time. I found an advertisement with the height depth and width and used those measurement as a starting point. The rest of the dimensions were gathered from those. My last name is dowell so wood working is in the blood(lol).

Had a little shop time yesterday and today to work on the cabinet build for a Majestic Ritz. I laid out and cut the speaker grill area yesterday along with adding the top and the walnut veneer on the front. I used a scroll and a jig saw for the cut outs before added the walnut, I used a utility knife for the veneer. I found a six inch wide fluted door casing at Lowe's that I was able cut down and use for the molding. I made some 60 grit sand paper rasps with number 77 glue and with pads from my orbital sander. the wide flat surface of the rasps enabled me to get the cutouts straight. used finger nail polish on the ends of the front knobs shafts to get placement of their openings. I slid the chassis until the shafts with wet polish made contact with the front of the cabinet. I measured from the bottom edge of chassis to get escutcheon placements.

Wow! That is awesome! I'm planning on making a few consoles myself, so am following closely and can't wait to see how this turns out. :D

Last piece of molding and grain filler applied to the walnut. Maybe I'll get a chance to sand the filler and stain tomorrow.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Ritz cabinet. The grill cloth is from Richmond Design small herringbone reversed. Once I finish restoring the chassis I'll post one more set of photos.

I noticed I didn't have the escutcheons at the same location from the top of the cabinet, I raised the one on the left and lower the one on the right to get them equal distance from the top of the cabinet. There was a tag on the chassis that stated it worked but only two of the capacitors had been replaced and the speaker cone had a couple of cracks. I repaired the speaker using GE silicon and replaced all of the paper and electrolytics. I will fire it up next trip out to the shop!

Here are the final pictures of the restoration of a Majestic Ritz model 666! Reasonably pleased with how it turned out. Pretty good sound also. In the Raleigh Durham area of North Carolina Curtis Media Group has a number of AM stations one of them is AM 850 "Just Right Music" a station I grew up with in the sixties and now I'm reliving some of the music I grew up with on the radios I restore!
