Hello everybody,
I am a 57 years old radio and tv technician from Germany. I live in Taiwan for 17 years. I build tube amplifiers and restore measurements from Grundig and Rohde / Schwarz. Now I want to restore my first radio cabinet.
Zou can see my hobby room.

It's winter in Taiwan too and I want to restore an old Telefunken Andante 8.
The case has 2 stains and with a cleaning polish for shellac I just managed the sides and the front well. Above are 2 spots that have probably been reworked.
The entire paint has scratches and cracks in the paint so I started to grind the stains so I can not get away and now the following sets:
- What's that dark substance under shellac? Is that color, or is it a kind of stain to get the wood (veneer) darker?
- Of course I can sand down everything but even my darkest shellac Bona is not that dark.
- I've read a lot about shellac and ordered 5 different wax free shellacs, also pumice powder, but nothing to get that dark shade.
- How do you do that?
Thanks for the help in advance
Mfg Jonny

You can use a dark toner for the top and then cover with lacquer or shellac.
What a great hobby room!

It's probably just a bad tube or something?
If it has a short, can you make it longer?
