Hello to all hear. I am trying to restore an Emerson DJ-310 radio. Currently working on the cabinet and would like some thoughts on how to proceed with this cabinet. The cabinet was covered in a cloth type material. I have no idea what this material is. Read various writings here and on the web about cloth, Tolex, leatherette and others. Over the years it has been painted in yellow then pink (terrible to get off!) and then white. The back was painted in gold. Understanding originality I would like thoughts on what to do. Recover it and if so what material to use, veneer the entire cabinet, smooth the corners and use opaque toner there and lacquer the rest, or maybe smooth out the entire cabinet and paint. Look forward to all suggestions.

I'd start by googling for sites that sell coverings for guitar amps - see if that pans out. This was originally cloth covered with a heavy texture - like burlap almost. See google for original cover.
