Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has tried to use an empty cabinet from those Crosley commemorative radio cheepie, junk repros. :? There is a model out there marked Crosley having the case of a Zenith "Bee Hive" model 5R312.....anyone try the original Zenith chassis for a fit? I have a few of these junk repro. radios put aside and there is an original Zenith version chassis that popped-up on eBay with a badly damaged case. Anyone's two cents appreciated.

I have one of each; a Zenith 6D312, and a Crosley Beehive repro, and the cabinet dimensions are the same. The knobs and push buttons on the Crosley are white, while those on the Zenith are off-white, and the repro of course doesn't have the round copper inserts next to each push button. You might have a good idea, if you can get the correct knobs and inserts.

Since I posted this the original Zenith on eBay received two bids.

I noticed one bid last night, after I had posted here, and presumed that it was yours. The set looks like a "convertible", lol, with most of the top half of the case gone. Regardless, twenty bucks for a complete Zenith chassis is a deal, and I would expect to see it go higher.

Guess I'm very spoiled having the Estes Auction in my back yard. I get radios like that for $1.00 there. Eventually another Beehive will show up there with a bad case....however, being a Zenith I may have to pay up to $5.00 for it. More into the 1930s Chicago Independent radio manufacturers. Everyone seems to collect Zenith and I like being different....the less familiar the brand the better for me.

....And still no guarantee the original Zenith chassis will mount properly in that repro. case....thought for sure someone else would have attempted this before. I also wonder if the tube chassis will run too warm for the repro. case.....(thinner plastic vs. original Bakelite) might warp or melt out of shape. A thought
