Anybody have a clue (before I butcher it for the 6SN7's inside)?

To me, looks like WWII vintage Navy gear, but for testing what?

Sealed, gasketed housing. Weighs 57 pounds.

I haven't figured how to get the guts out ... don't see any obvious retaining hardware except for the 3 slotted thumbscrews on the front panel ... maybe just stuck hard from 70 years or so of sitting.

Looks like it measures the RF output power levels and shows the pulse waveforms of radar systems. Not real huge ones, but the variety that you'd find in aircraft or on small ships. It was probably made right after WW-2.

As for value, somebody must've thought it was worth holding onto all these years, possibly for working on civilian radars on boats. Unfortunately, its usefulness for even that purpose has probably passed, unless one just wants to experiment with old equipment. But before you scrap it for parts, it is worth considering that there are collectors for just about everything these days--including old radar gear. It appears to be in good, original physical condition, so a well placed ad might get you a sale or a trade worth more than the parts.

The June 1945 SIG5 catalog describes it as "used with, but not part of, Army-Navy radar set AN/APX-13." No specs since it was classified.

I don't know what an APX-13 was, but A is "airborne," P is "radar", and X is "identification/recognition."

Where do you live? Maybe you can pull all the tubes and send the rest to me for shipping.

I really don't have any use for this box, and I doubt that the parts inside would be useful for anything I'm likely to work on so, if somebody is seriously interested in it, I'll let it go (as-is, tubes included) for the cost of shipping from ZIP 07105. BUT, bear in mind: we're looking at 65 pounds shipping weight ... figure UPS or USPS using their web sites. The tubes are secured in place with base locking bands and the case is fairly heavy-gauge steel, so I probably don't need to overdo the packaging protection ... heck, I could probably ship it safely enough by just sticking a label and lots of stamps on the case!

Since I'm not really offering it for sale, I hope this does not violate the policy for this forum.

I'm not exactly expecting a mad scramble for this, but it's strictly first (if any!) "offer" gets it ... I just want to get rid of it and not generate any hard feelings in the process.

Of course, I may pull the offer if I find out that it's so bloody heavy cuz it's got 20 pounds of gold shielding inside! :)

I think I have to decline; shipping would be about $60 from Newark.

Too bad; I would like to have it.
