I aquired a superior Instruments Rapid Tube Tester Model 82-A at an auction on the weekend. It has been built into the lid of a homemade wooden tube caddy, which was full of NOS tubes (Why I actually bought it).
There is no power cord or instructions with the tester, I have no idea if it works or not. Does anyone know if this is a halfway decent instrument?
A tube tester would be useful to me, at least save me the 1/2 hour drive to AES when I need to check a tube. But I don't want to sink lots of time and effort into trying to get it working if it is crappy either.
Any ideas where I could find a copy of the manual with all the tube specs?
------------------
-Mike

I've never run across an 82-A, but in general, Superior was not among the elite of tube tester makers. It's probably an emission tester at best. Not a lot to go wrong with these things, though. The circuit is apt to be the same as a Heath or low-end Eico 625/628.
------------------
I have an 82-A and it is the most basic of tube testers, emission only. There is not much to go wrong with this tester. I aquired a copy of the model 82 tube chart which works on the 82-A. The only difference between the two models I can see is the 82-A has the additional panel installed which has a newvistor, compactron, and 10 pin(I think)sockets.
------------------
Send your email address to me in a PM and I can send the 1959 chart in a pdf.
